2. Choose the best light direction

3. Stay minimal

When you photograph cakes, you want to make sure your beautiful creations are strong.

If you use too many props, they reduce your primary theme. Then your cake lands in competition for attention. This is especially true if you serve the whole cake.

There are no “best” camera angles for your cake photography. The best angle is always the one that brings the quality of your theme.

What might work well for one image won’t give you the best results for the other.

Before you take the camera, look at the cake you’re shooting. Decide which camera angle produces the best features and present the story you want to tell.

In general, frozen cake with layers immediately looks the best shot. In this way, emphasize the layers and height of the cake. If the ice swirl is focused, a three-quarter shot could work well.

Overhead recordings also do not work. Unless you want to stay focused at the top of the cake. Or you might want to create a story in which you have a few other elements in your frame, such as. B a plate and a device, and possibly a drink. Pictures of flat cakes are nice for storytelling.

6. Use Food Style Tricks to improve themes

7. Use filling and reflection to form light

To maximize your light, you need to shape it.

A variety of dispersion and reflectors in different sizes are an important part of your food photography kit. You can buy professional kits online. Or DIY with a transparent white curtain and several pieces of black and white foam core.

Several professional reflectors are a good investment. It is a folding cake with gold, silver, white and black materials. You can use it in a comment, depending on your lighting scenario.

You can use a golden reflector to add warmth to your cake photo, while silver can cheer it up.

It softens the light and determines how much light hits your set. In the case of strong sunlight, I like to use a very large sip. He made too much light from the overflow into my scene and embodied the hard shadows.

You also need some tools to manage these shadows and direct the light to the desired location.

Your camera may have difficulty focusing when there is not enough light. Or when it comes to high-contrast scenes or uniform colors. Af systems cannot look for obvious benefits.

You can have this problem with cake photography. Most of your frames can be dominated by a single color or tone. You may not be able to focus on where you want.

If you want, you can also use manual focus. In food photography, we often work with macro-canta and narrow depths of the field.

This means that you need to be very precise with your focus. Only one touch can cause you to lose focus completely.

When you shoot the cake, try to shoot at a smaller aperture, such as .B. f/8.  More of your topics will be focused on. You also need to focus on the front of the cake.
